Purpose

freesmartphone.org is a collaboration platform for open source and open discussion software projects working on interoperability and shared technology for Linux-based SmartPhones. freesmartphone.org honours and bases on specifications and software created by the freedesktop.org community.

freesmartphone.org works on specifications and reference implementations based on those standards.
We rely on the tools and workflow that has been established by the Free Software Community.

Supported Networks

freesmartphone.org collaboration takes place mostly in the context of GSM/UMTS networks.

Reference Model

The common framework for discussion is the freesmartphone.org reference model which establishes the basic functional components and reference points for linux-based smartphones. The freesmartphone reference model basically extends the GSM Functional Model for User Equipment (UE) and refines the model for linux based environments.
